“Brain Teasers: anytime, anywhere.” The challenge: Nintendo asked us to come up with an indoor promotion for Nintendo DSi Brain Teasers. The problem: in shopping malls prior to Christmas. And as we all know, they are a madhouse of noise and confusion at this time. So, how do we get anyone’s attention in there? The idea: In every shopping mall there is a place where we can have people for...

Ira Glass on Being Wrong →
jratlee: One of the reasons I was interested in doing this interview is because I feel like being wrong is really important to doing decent work. To do any kind of creative work well, you have to run at stuff knowing that it’s usually going to fail. You have to take that into account and you have to make peace with it. We spend a lot of money and time on stuff that goes nowhere. It’s not unusual...

And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change...

What I Learned Today: What's all that noise? →
That buzzing, that drone, the sound of an ”elephant in distress” during the World Cup matches. It’s the vuvuzela, of course. The vuvuzela is a plastic blowing horn, developed in the 1990s by soccer fan Neil van Schalkwyk. In South Africa, sports fans used to bring homemade tin blowing horns…

Google Voice
Finally set up a Google Voice number tonight, eager to try the recording feature.  Maiden call had to go to The Information, as he lived up to his name by answering yet another question of mine with “Google has that,” when I asked him if it was possible to record calls.  Overall a great success, the playback was crystal clear, with Cliffe sounding as if he was in the room.  Fun side...

All you need is love -- and a Beatles degree
fuckyeahthebeatles: They helped introduce the world to mop top haircuts, collarless jackets and yellow submarines — now a British university is launching what it says is the world’s first ever masters degree in the Beatles. Liverpool Hope University, in the Fab Four’s home city, says its Beatles, Popular Music and Society course will be a long-overdue examination of the band behind songs such...

Pulp Fiction If Written By Shakespeare
Julius: Your pardon; did I break thy concentration?
Continue! Ah, but now thy tongue is still.
Allow me, then, to offer a retort.
Describe Marsellus Wallace to me, pray.
Brett: What?
Julius: What country dost thou hail from?
Brett: What?
Julius: Thou sayest thou dost hail from distant What!
I know but naught of thy strange country What.
What language speak they in the land of What?
Brett: What?
Julius: English, base knave, dost thou speak it?
Brett: Aye!
Julius: Then hearken to my words and answer them!
Describe to me Marsellus Wallace!
Brett: What?
(JULIUS presses his knife to BRETT's throat)
Julius: Speak 'What' again! Thou cur, cry 'What' again!
I dare thee utter 'What' again but once!
I dare thee twice and spit upon thy name!
Now, paint for me a portraiture in words,
If thou hast any in thy head but 'What',
Of Marsellus Wallace!
Brett: He is dark.
Julius: Aye, and what more?
Brett: His head is shaven bald.
Julius: Hath he the semblance of a harlot?
Brett: What?
(JULIUS strikes with his blade and BRETT cries out)
Julius: Hath he the semblance of a harlot?
Brett: Nay!
Julius: Then why didst thou attempt to bed him thus?
Brett: I did not!
Julius: Aye, thou didst! O, aye, thou didst!
Thou sought to rape him like a chattel whore!
And sooth, Lord Wallace is displeased to bed
With aught save Lady Wallace, whom he wed.

The kiwi.  Sure you’ve had it in fruit salad, but you know you never want to buy them in the store because let’s face it - it’s grabbing fuzzy balls.  I bought  a sack of six; why not take the plunge, right?  None of us would even know about these things If it wasn’t for Snapple and other pioneers in the 90’s exposing us to unheard of flavors like Mango Madness and...

FX's Archer renewed for second season →
“The show hasn’t drawn big ratings — it’s averaging a little more than 1.2 million viewers per week. But that falls in line with the cable channel’s other recent comedy launch, “The League” (1.3 million average in the fall) and is better than the first season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which grew in later seasons as more...
